Dr. Brian Butler is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies and the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Before joining University of Maryland, Dr. Butler was an Associate Professor of Business Administration at the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and the Clinical and Transactional Science Institute. He received his PhD in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University in 1999.
Dr Butler's research interests include IT impacts on local food systems and other geographically embedded markets, business continuity management, mindfulness and IT, the dynamics of online communities and other technology supported groups Wikipedia policies and rules, social networking systems, the politics of technology implementation in organizations, and the impact of online commerce on inter-organizational relationship.
His research has been published in leading journals such as Organization Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Communications of the Association of Information Systems, Journal of Management Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, etc. Dr. Butler is also the author of several books.
