NASA Responsibilities: Coordinates a team of analysts to characterize the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument, algorithms, and their applicability to studying trends in the ocean biosphere.

Current NASA Activities:

  1. BulletSensitivity analysis of ocean surface radiometry from space, evaluate radiometric performance on estimation of derived parameters (e.g.,chlorophyll a concentration), and evaluate radiometric performance requirements in context of parameter uncertainty.

  2. BulletQuantified the role of small scale clouds on the retrieval of ocean surface reflectance and derived products for moderate resolution spaceborne scanning sensors. Poster presented at Ocean Science 2006 Meeting; manuscript being prepared.

  3. BulletCurrently conducting research in multi-angular remote sensing of coastal marshlands to retrieve information about canopy architecture. This entails field measurements of leaf-area index and canopy reflectance spectra, development and calibration of instruments, and work with CHRIS/Proba and ASTER satellite data.
