I was born in Thiruvanathapuram, India, and I took up science as my major by the age of 14. I completed my B.E (Hons.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M.Sc (Hons.) Biological Sciences from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani in 2007. Upon graduation, I worked at IBM-India, Bangalore, in the ASIC development team for 2 years. I then decided to pursue a graduate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).
I initially joined the University of Maryland as a Master's student in 2009. For my master's degree I worked under the guidance of Dr. Romel Gomez on developing a label-free biosensor for the detection of pathogenic bateria, thereby combining both my interests, biology and electrical engineering. I joined the PhD program in Fall 2011. I currently work on biofilm detection and treatment under Dr. Reza Ghodssi.
